About Us

In the spring of 1979, Jim Anderson and his son, Art, opened an office and established Electrical Mechanical Services (EMS) in an empty service station in White Bear Lake, Minnesota. The accommodations were very meager but their dream and resolve to build the largest and most well equipment independent motor repair, sales, and service company in the Twin City Area was very clear. Within two years, EMS's new 16,000 square foot repair facility was being built in neighboring Vadnais Heights. Jim, an internationally recognized expert in the repair of electrical rotating apparatus and a past international president of the Electrical Apparatus Service Association ( EASA ), was committed to building an organization that would provide quality motor repair and service. (Jim Anderson passed away in 1999 and was awarded posthumously the Electrical Apparatus Service Association's Distinguished Service Award for 2001.) Art focused on the distribution side of the business as motor and control sales grew at a rapid rate. The company grew in the repair and service of motors and generators and the sales of new motors, motor control, and AC and DC drives. EMS became the first motor repair organization in the area to offer vibration analysis and field balancing. A control panel shop was also established to provide system solutions to the distribution side of the business.

Soon the building was too small and in the early 90's a 10,000 square foot addition was constructed to meet the increasing demands of servicing larger and more complex equipment. The company has continued to grow and to expand into a variety services including thermal imaging, laser alignment, and motor winding testing. Four dynamic balancing machines up to 10,000 lb. capacity have made EMS a Midwest leader in balancing of any type of rotating apparatus.

EMS continues to grow and expand as technology changes and the needs of industry evolve. Reliability and service are central to our mission. Approximately 32 dedicated and skilled staff offer a variety of services from motor and drive application, all aspects of motor repair to reliability based monitoring of rotating apparatus.

In the fall of 2005, EMS acquired the personnel and equipment from a reliability maintenance company in Clinton, Iowa. The work of our 14 employees is totally confined within a large Archer Daniel Midland facility and is primarily focused on reducing maintenance costs and assisting to minimize unexpected downtime.

The EMS management team has well over 100 years of combined experience in our industry. Our facility is modern and well equipped to do the work and supply the product to meet the demands of our customers.
